The painting depicts a morning view of the East Village area in Douglas, Cork, Ireland. looking towards the sunlight.  Painting into the sunlight, the forms of the buildings, cars, and street furniture, merge and a more simplified picture emerges, punctuated with bright reflections on hard surfaces.

I’m often inspired by scenes and locations that are outside the usual terms of what’s thought to be beautiful.  In the right lighting and angle, even the most mundane locations in the suburbs have a dignity and grandeur to them that’s worth noticing and appreciating.
